GREAT NEWS on renewable energy front: PAKISTAN’s first large-scale solar power project ( QUAID E AZAM SOLAR PARK BAHAWALPUR ) is one of the largest in the world. The project is expected to start generating 100 MW of power by the end of the year, and 1,000 MW by the end of 2016 (when “complete”). The project comprises 400,000 solar panels and was built for a cost of about $131 million. Once completed, the project will generate around 2.5 times the power that the massive 392 MW Ivanpah solar-thermal plant in California does — making it one of the largest solar projects in the world.
